French conceptual artist Adel Abdessemed is recognised for works that are clearly iconoclastic of the established world. References to the sacred are a constant of his oeuvre, as are the explosive and catastrophic. His pieces explore the hegemony of capitalism as usurper of worship, as well as the notion of death. Published on the occasion of Abdessemed’s first solo exhibition in Spain, at the CAC Málaga, this richly illustrated catalogue presents a range of works and installation views that together form a picture of the contrasts he addresses, from the fears and anxieties that are nourished by history and actuality, to the violence bred by politics and religious conflicts. |
