Mesostic, name poem. The earliest example we have traced is a German poem (1633). John Cage revived the form in the 1950s, employing it predominantly for the composition of aleatory poems based around source texts. The mesostic was adapted by Alec Finlay in 2002, who refined the basic rule to composing one word per letter for any given source name. naMes makE stemS, chOsen wordS Their growIing branChes
