'Maxims of behaviour, by artist Alexander Knox, is a seasonal artwork for Melbourne, illuminating the cityscape from dusk until late during the winter months.
Set high among the billboards and signs of the major city intersection at the corner of Bourke and Swanston streets, maxims of behaviour is an artwork of moving light. At night, an ever-changing montage of abstract images animates the surface of this 1960s building, known as Royal Mail House. This expansive work mimics the city’s colour, rhythm and behaviour whilst appearing to have a life of its own.
Launched in 2008, this light-based installation was commissioned as part of the City of Melbourne's Public Art Program.
maxims of behaviour is currently visible each year for the winter months only, nightly from dusk until late.' |
