Matthew studied Fine Art at BA and MA in the NorthEast in the 1980’s and went on to establish a sculpture studio and undertake a number of public art commissions, artists residencies in industry and solo exhibitions. In 1995 he became Public Art Officer for City of Sunderland and developed and delivered a large programme of commissions within the City's regeneration programme including the National Glass Centre. In 1999 Matthew joined Northern Arts to setup Commissions North to promote new opportunities for commissions by connecting artists; businesses and agencies. Commissions North’s services are aimed at clients considering working with an artist and include an artists database, advice, advocacy, design development grants and brokerage services. Commissions North is based within Arts Council North East and has assisted with over £8million of arts commissions since 1999.
