Published alongside an exhibition of the same name at Haunch of Venison, London (May - June 2007). Anton Henning's "Oasis" is an installation in which immaculately crafted plinths supporting assorted sculptural forms seem to erupt from a brightly coloured carpet. The carpet is based on one of Henning's paintings, Interieur No.342 (2006) and it is as if the painting had been greatly enlarged, taken off the wall, laid flat on the floor, and liberally fertilised. It has become a rectilinear root system for the dense jungle of (seemingly) unconnected forms which appear to have organically arisen from it. Anton Henning (b. Berlin 1964) lives and works in Manker, Germany. He has exhibited widely throughout Europe and recent museum exhibitions include the De Pont Foundation, Tillburg, Netherlands (2002), Kunstmuseum Luzern, Switzerland (2003), the Museum fur Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt, Germany (2005), Kunstmuseum Krefeld, Germany (2005), and MARTa Herford, Germany (2005). |
