Asami Kiyokawa: Collecting
Library Shelf Location 18.KIYO
Publication Date 2012
Description Most people only think of drawing, painting and photography as the media for 2-D art works. Asami Kiyokawa, however, has chosen something different to enhance her work: embroidery. Kiyokawa is well known for combining photographs of beautiful women and illustrations with intricate stitching and beading to produce images of unusual texture and sparkle. This exhibition presents a series of her works focusing on women and extinct or endangered species of animals, as well as some brand-new pieces created for the show. The main exhibit, "Bijo Saishu" ("Beautiful Girl Collecting") is from Kiyokawa's series that involves her favorite female subjects. Her models include celebrities and even popular animation characters, whose images are all embellished by her unusual choice of colors and materials.
