Saturday 19 November 2016, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.
Experience tales triggered by sight and sound where the lines between the world of magic and the real world disappear and it is no longer possible to tell the two apart. In this performance, contemporary artist Jumana Emil Abboud invites audiences to move in and between spaces in a newly commissioned live art piece inspired by Palestinian folklore.
The stories are drawn from Palestinian folktales and actual contemporary life-stories, collected by the artist from friends, acquaintances and strangers alike.
Jumana Emil Abboud (born 1971, Shefa-'Amr, Galilee) works with drawing, installation, video and performance, exploring personal and collective memory, loss, longing and belonging. Inspired by the cultural landscape of her home, Abboud draws on the traditions of Palestinian folklore and myth-making and investigates oral histories. Out of the Shadows follows on from her exhibition this summer at BALTIC.
This event is the third presentation from BALTIC Live, a series of interdisciplinary performances introducing a new live art and experimental dance programme at BALTIC.
