In the summer of 2019, blimey! a female-led Darlington based artists’ collective embarked on a project of response to Guido Reni’s baroque painting ‘The Death of Lucretia’ at The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, in North East England. Alongside communal participatory events at a range of venues, an online programme of talks and workshops, and an exhibition at the Museum in 2020, this publication is another of those responses. It acts as a contextual framework for the project; a project about the representation of women, our engagement with art in museums, shared experience and collective practice. It features contributions from ten invited artists and writers, as well as from the blimey! collective themselves: Amanda Marshall, Carol Sommer, Nicola Golightly and Vicky Holbrough.
