Carlos Capelán

onlyyou

2 October 2004 - 28 November 2004

Carlos Capelán playfully explores issues of self, ego and identity in a series of new works. Capelán utilises a variety of media, including wall drawing, video, photography, sculpture and
installation.

onlyyou reflects on the aspirations and realities of shared intimate lives. With a wry humour the artist comments on romance versus the ‘rough and tumble’ of family life. He works with unconventional materials: from wine to fizzy drinks and from carved stone plinths to found objects such as nail clippings from feet and hands. Each work suggests an emotional warmth rather than a critical coldness, enabling the viewer to readily empathise with Capelán’s gentle exposure of life.

onlyyou was commissioned by BildMuseet, Sweden.
