"This colllection of comics is based on a series of diary entries made by Derek Jarman in 1989.
Most of the diary entries relate to his home - an old fishermans cottage in Dungeness on the Kent coast - called Prospect Cottage, and the garden which he created outside of it.
Jarman was a queer activist, artist, writer, film maker, stage designer and gardener.
In 1986 he was diagnosed as HIV positive, and left London for Dungeness shortly after.
Jarman spoke publicly about his HIV status and engaged in direct action and civil disobedience to fight against the stigma directed at people with AIDS. He also built a beautiful garden by the sea.
Derek died of AIDS-related illness in 1994." |
