The year 2001 marks the 15h edition of the Prix Ars Electronica, conducted by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF), Upper Austrian Regional Studio. Since its beginning in 1987, the Prix Ars Electronica has been continuously renewed, so that it has been able to maintain its international position of leadership throughout the tempestuous development of the digital media scene over these fifteen years. Around 11,000 artists, scientists, researchers and representatives from the entertainment branch from all over the world have entered their works inthe Prix Ars Eletronica, thus formulating and commenting on the media developments of the past fifteen years. At the same time, with their works they have laid the foundation within the sphere of contemporary art for a new, highly qualified media-theoretical investigation and definition moving from computer art to cyberart. |
