Description |
A collection of beautiful photo-essays from over 40 years of the remarkable career of Danny Lyon (b.1942), Lyon has long been considered one of the most original and influential American documentary photographers. He pioneered the style of photographic ‘New Journalism’ as he rebelled against Life magazine style photographs, instead immersing himself as a participant with his documented subjects.
The work collected here, much of it considered too controversial for publication at the time of its creation, ranges from sensual, richly coloured images of Colombian brothels and black-and-white portraits of boys in 1965 Chicago, to some of his best-known projects such as The Bikeriders story and recent work made in Cuba
Each story is published as a complete piece for the first time and is accompanied by Lyon’s own text. Also includes a rare interview with curator, Hugh Edwards |
