Description This exhibition celebrated the 1997 renovation and reopening of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and documented its 49-year history. To highlight the many seminal exhibitions produced by the institution, the Museum solicited loans of works of art from both public and private collections in Houston that had been introduced to their owners by the Museum. The exhibition and accompanying book highlight the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston’s place in and contributions to the role of contemporary art in southeast Texas since the late 1940s. Includes essays by Marti Mayo, Bruce C. Webb and Richard Howard; statements by lenders to the exhibition on their relationship to and the history of the loans and entries on each object by either Dana Friis-Hansen, Lynn M. Herbert, Alexandra Irvine or Marti Mayo; detailed history of the Museum’s exhibitions from 1948 to 1996; list of current and former trustees of the Museum. Indexed.
