The visual arts in Ireland are in a healthier and more vital state than ever before and the expectation of a new generation of artists is high. This generation made an effortless transition from the progress made in the seventies to the eighties, from strict modernist to post-modernist values. A visual arts tradition in most countries is rarely unified but consists of a set of complex, often contradictory practices.
