Graeme Durant makes sculptures, paintings, collages, drawings and installations. For BALTIC, he has developed a new body of work for the Level 2 gallery. His playful approach sees forms appropriated from the everyday – a rug, a tennis ball –collide with an infinite array of diverse references: fiction, reality, art history, literature and architecture. Through a process of recycling, improvisation and low-tech construction, Durant’s objects become invested in new meaning and imagination.
