Description |
What kind on event is a set-up? Usually it is something that has been precontrived, plotted, or possibly even rigged. The line between the framed and unframed, the spontaneous and the contrived, is, however, a shifting one. An exhibition is inevitably a contrived affair, yet the nature of the event that unfolds in the exhibition space depends entirely upon the viewer. This Kiasma collection exhibition examines the nature of contemporary art-as-event: it considers how works of art are constructed and encountered in the context of an exhibition. The show highlights a selection of participatory art and events or constructed scenes staged by various artists.
