For his first large-scale project in Britain, Jose Dávila will work in and around Camden Arts Centre for six weeks, linking the interior and exterior of the building by means of an elaborate scaffolding structure. Dávila’s work has a strong formal presence, but is also motivated and informed by the viewer’s response to an object or environment. He is interested in the ideas of ‘work in progress’ suggested by temporary structures and the possibilities for interpretation that these interventions afford. Initially a student of architecture, his multi-faceted practice also includes publications and projects with Incidental, an artists’ collective in Guadalajara, Mexico, and independent curatorial projects including Proyecto Zapopan, an ‘unannounced’ space open for 24 hours a day, where artists are invited to respond to the vulnerable context of the space.
