Joseph Havel

Night

31 January 2007 - 29 April 2007

BALTIC presents the first major European exhibition of American artist Joesph Havel. In his work he often uses ordinary materials, such as white shirts, curtains and tablecloths and transforms them into sculptures and wall installations. The exhibition will feature works that highlight Havel’s transformation of elements from everyday life into poetic and timeless forms. Night explores the mental state between sleeping, dreaming and being awake. Two of the works in this exhibition, Sam Can't Sleep and Criticism and Gossip (fountains) were inspired by a diary of words and ideas randomly recorded when waking from his dreams.
