Description

This book tells the story of Jyll Bradley's Pardes, a work commissioned by the Fruitmarket in Edinburgh for its new Warehouse space.

Bradley is a British artist who studies at Goldsmith's College (1985-88) and the Slade (1991-93). She is known for work which fuses minimalist formal vocabulary with an exploration and celebration of light. She works with photography, film, and sculpture, and for ambitious public realm commissions such as the magical glowing hop garden Green/Light (For M.R.) for the 2014 Folkestone Triennial, and the shimmering Dutch/Light (2017) for Turner Contemporary, Margate.

Jyll Bradley's art draws on systems and structures of growth as metaphors for cultural exchange, place and diversity, interacting both with its site and the people who visit it. In Pardes, Bradley pays homage to structures created by historic Scottish fruit growers and to the cultural heritage of the Fruitmarket as an old fruit and vegetable warehouse in a work that is an invitation as much as a sculpture.
