Description Luigi Benzoni, born in 1956 is a well-known personality in Venice and on the island of Murano, and his work has been on display from Milan to Miami and from New York to the Hague. He is a master in painting, glass sculpture, drawing and etching and even his bronzes are quite remarkable. Luigi Benzoni is a man of inspiration. His creations have an enormous variety. The heads do not only appear in the outlines of gold leaves, but also as robust three-dimensional objects, cast in glass or in luscious bronze; these heads have a quality of their own, and they produce the association with the rotund faces, attractive and exotic of Moors in Venetian sculpture. His most recent works are faces in profile, produced in transparent glass, sometimes with the addition of a colour. The most striking feature, however, is the suggestion of a nose and mouth. Here we touch a general characteristic of Luigi Benzoni's art. His outlines and his design seem to be of the utmost simplicity, but in fact they are the result of a decisive power and resolute determination. He could be compared with a Japanese calligraphist, who waits until he has reached a maximum of concentration, and then, and only then puts down his sign in order to reach the ultimate balance of power and energy. This is what Benzoni has in common with the Japanese poet, who writes a short haiku: only the essential lines are there. Everything superfluous is already eliminated; only the essence remains. This work features strikingly beautiful Murano glass sculptures. Benzoni is a master in painting, glass sculpture, drawing, and etching.
