Mark Dion: The Academy of Things

Mark Dion: The Academy of Things
Library Shelf Location 18.DION
Publication Date 2015
Description

Mark Dion has combed through the archives of world-famous institutions in order to question traditional classification systems, with which objects from all around the world are collected and presented. The artist transforms supposedly prescribed classifications and puts historical collection contexts up for discussion, by re-ordering the collectionʼs objects in complex installations. For his biggest personal show in Germany to date, Mark Dion has drawn his inspiration from things hidden away in the collections of the Dresden Art Academy. Published on the occasion of the exhibition Mark Dion: The Academy of Things at Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden and Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden, 24 October 2014 – 25 January 2015.
