Description IRIS- International Centre for Women in Photography Established in 1994 at Staffordshire University, Stoke-on-Trent, to coincide with the Signals festival of women photographers, IRIS seeks to locate the work of women photographers within a theoretical framework that extends dialogue beyond cultural, social, geographical and gender boundaries. During the past decade IRIS has created an educational resource through its membership scheme and aims to disseminate its findings through a wide range of exhibitions, educational projects, publications and new technology. As the only British organisation dedicated to researching contemporary women's photographic practice, IRIS is uniquely placed to contribute to diversity to readings surrounding the photograph.
