Description

INDEX gathers for the first time in a single publication all the conversations that Maurizio Cattelan has realized throughout the past twenty years playing the role of the interviewer to other artists and creatives. It is the second volume published in conjunction with his solo show “Breath Ghosts Blind,” an anthology that collects over 130 dialogues, presented from 2001 until today on several magazines and newspapers, such as Flash Art, Purple Magazine, Vogue and Il Manifesto, as well as on monographic volumes and exhibition catalogues. Like tiles of a mosaic, the interviews combine to create a unique and unprecedented portrait of the last decades’s visual culture, as well as of Maurizio Cattelan’s practice and research on identity, on the society we live in, and on the power of images. The book presents all the conversations reprinted in facsimile, keeping the original text and the layout of each publication, giving shape to a kaleidoscope of voices and images. Rereading the texts and looking through the interviews, it is an astonishing chorus of people, ranging from young and emerging artists to established ones, including creative figures in a broad sense such as architects, designers, chefs, thinkers, people from the entertainment world—among which Alighiero Boetti, Massimo Bottura, Michel Houellebecq, Dorothy Iannone, Paola Pivi, Tino Sehgal, Chloë Sevigny, Dana Schutz and Frank Lloyd Wright.
