City Strapline Industries

27 MARCH 2004 - 30 APRIL 2004

City Strapline Industries is an installation combining processes of ‘social interference’ and media-making to explore the phenomenon of the branding of cities as a strategy, not only of marketing, but also of regeneration.

Through a residency hosted by Newcastle Gateshead Initiative – the city marketing agency that spearheaded the bid to be European Capital of Culture 2008 – the artist devised an installation comprising new video works, photography, found objects, text and an interactive web-based art work www.strapline.org.uk

The exhibition also features other recent video works by the artist, including Cultural Quarter, 2003 (multiple–prize at the Echigo- Tsumari Art Triennial in Japan, August 2003).

Produced by Forma. Supported by Newcastle Gateshead Initiative, New Media Scotland and University of Dundee
