Mikhail Karikis presents his recent audio-visual performance 102 Years Out of Synch exploring the sonic imaginary of Hell and its striking connections with the construction of the first geothermal power plant in the world, Dante’s epic poem Inferno and the very first Italian feature film. Karikis' interdisciplinary practice is equally embraced by museums and concert halls and encompasses sound art, video, music, performance and installation. His work emerges from his long-standing investigation of the human voice as a sculptural material and a conceptual compass, which he employs to explore notions of community and politics of work. With his current project entitled Children of Unquiet, Karikis completes a quartet of research projects exploring the impact of post-industrialization on various communities in England, South Korea and Italy.
