Emmett Williams, an internationally respected poet, performer, painter and printmaker, became involved with the Fluxus movement in the early 1960 s. Fluxus was the most radical and experimental art movement of the 1960 s, led by the charismatic and obsessive George Maciunas, who believed in radical change, starting with the world of art. In this frank and stimulating memoir Williams recalls many of the artists with whom he associated during the 60 s and 70 s Joseph Beuys, Daniel Spoerri, Dieter Roth and Robert Filliou, amongst others. Interspersed with poems, documents, photographs and scores, his reminiscences and reflections leap back and forth in time, from country to country and continent to continent, recalling all the performances that I can remember or track down , and including some of the funny things that happened on the way to the Forum . |
