Olav Christopher Jenssen

Both

7 December 2002 - 9 February 2003

Both is an exhibition of Olav Christopher Jenssen’s work which presents a selection of new paintings and, for the first time, new ceramic sculptures. Jenssen’s canvases challenge the conventions of painting; abstract marks and symbols, combined with letters and numbers create humorous, sensitive, banal and at the same time poetic images, devoid of any heroic gesture or subject matter.

He executes in his work a careful balance between the spontaneous and the highly controlled.

This exhibition, which was opened by HM Queen Sonja of Norway, is the first major presentation of his work in a public gallery in the UK.
