26 October 2002 - 26 January 2003
Pedro Cabrita Reis is one of the most significant artists to emerge from Portugal since the 1980s.
His semi-abstract sculptures, paintings and installations recycle everyday materials to create evocative quasi-architectural art works in which the process of construction is emphasized.
The exhibition presents four large scale works: two of these are new commissions produced for this show, that are exhibited alongside the installation Cabinet d’amateur #2 (2001). Northern Stairs (2001) will be installed on Baltic Square for the duration of the exhibition.
This touring exhibition is a collaboration with Kerstner-Gesellschaft in Hanover, and is guest-curated at BALTIC by Michael Tarantino.
