Practical Approaches to Working With Contemporary Art
Library Shelf Location 08.BALT
Publication Date 2011
Description This resource was developed to coincide with the Anselm Kiefer exhibition at BALTIC, from 8 October 2010 – 16 January 2011, made possible by ARTIST ROOMS On Tour with the Art Fund. It is designed for use in secondary schools and further education institutions and colleges to give young people the opportunity to learn more about contemporary art and find out how different groups of young people have worked in response to an exhibition. This resource shows three projects which demonstrate different approaches to working in response to a contemporary art exhibition. In order for you to plan similar projects in your school, the resource includes tips for carrying out an interview, ideas for documenting responses to art during a gallery visit, and ideas for curating an exhibition of students work in school. In this resource Anselm Kiefer has been used as the stimulus but all of the suggested methods and activities included can be used when looking at ANY contemporary artwork or exhibition. This resource can be used to support pre and post visit work in the classroom or can stand alone. This resource is available to download using the link above and also from www.balticmill.com/resources where you can find more teaching resources for both Primary and Secondary School levels.
