Description |
Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is presented as an artist in this publication following the exhibition THE ESSENCE OF COLOUR at ARKEN Museum of Modern Art. This exhibition is the largest ever of The Queen's artistic work showing 135 acrylic paintings, watercolours and découpages from a period of 35 years. The artist Margrethe II focuses on colour when depicting Nordic nature and landscapes in paintings reflecting different moods and styles. In Queen Margrethe II's latest paintings shown here for the first time the artist is concentrating on carcases and bones on strong yellow backgrounds. This new theme is connected to The Queen's lifelong interest in archaeology. In the richly illustrated exhibition catalogue ARKEN's director Christian Gether presents the concept of the exhibition, the Danish painter and poet Martin Bigum has a profound interview with The Queen discussing inspiration, artistic development and some other artists, the well-known German art historian Dr. Norbert Nobis brings a survey of The Queen's works in the exhibition and ARKEN's curator Andrea Rygg Karberg develops the theme of fairy tales and Tolkien's and H.C. Andersen's literature in the adventurous art of Queen Margrethe II. |
