From Canada Gallery website
'Since the 1980s, Vancouver-based Rodney Graham has grown his diverse practice to encompass photography, painting, sculpture, film, video and music. As actor, performer, producer, historian, writer, poet, sound engineer and musician, Graham shifts seamlessly into different roles and characters. The Globe and Mail newspaper labelled him a “genre-busting Renaissance man” who employs a cerebral sense of humour as he injects himself into his work.

This exhibition was organized to coincide with a retrospective of Graham’s work at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, England, opening March 17th.

In 1997 Graham represented Canada at the 47th Venice Biennale and is the recipient of the Gershon Iskowitz Prize, Toronto, Canada (2004), the Kurt Schwitters-Preis, Niedersächsiche Sparkassenstiftung, Germany (2006) and the Audain Prize for lifetime achievement in visual arts, British Columbia, Canada (2011).

In 2017, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for his contributions to Canadian contemporary visual arts.

Rodney Graham: Canadian Impressionist is curated by Canadian art historian Patrik Andersson, who is an Associate Professor in the Department of Critical and Cultural Studies at Emily Carr University of Art & Design in Vancouver.

We would like to thank the artist and all who graciously loaned their works from private collections for this exhibition.

This exhibition was made possible thanks to Hauser & Wirth and the Lisson Gallery.

The Canada Gallery’s ongoing programme is generously supported by the Dahdaleh Foundation, chaired by Victor Phillip Dahdaleh.'
