Women’s organisation Sangini curated a celebratory event in response to Judy Chicago’s exhibition at BALTIC. An evening of fun and co-creating with local artists Padma Rao and Miki Z.
Padma Rao and Miki Z are lead artists for Women’s House, a project inspired by Judy Chicago that opens for public on Saturday 23 November at Makaan Art Gallery, South Shields.
Over the years, Sangini has pioneered arts-based practice to talk about a host of issues affecting women, especially from BME and socially disadvantaged communities in the Tyne and Wear region, involving diverse artists to encourage participation and self-expression among them.
Sangini is a Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) led, multicultural women’s organisation based in Tyne and Wear. They seek to improve the quality of women’s lives by increasing their physical, mental and spiritual health through educational, creative and participatory activities that also celebrate cultural diversity.
Women’s House is a women artists-led project that investigates the notion of feminism, domesticity and art; and creates an impact on the artists' own practice through professional development, personal reflections, site-specific work, public engagement and a public sharing event involving diverse artists and women. Led by two artists, Padma Rao and Miki Z, the project explores a variety of themes such as equality, gendered roles and space from BMER and LGBTQ perspectives.
