This year Japan and Thailand realize the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between their two countries. To mark the occasion, both governments have agreed to organize special events and activities to reflect their long, traditional friendship and 120 years of uninterrupted ties.
The Contemporary Art Exhibition “Show Me Thai” will display the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of works by Thai and Japanese artists ever brought together.
“Show Me Thai” or “Mite Mi Thai” is comprised of major works by more than 60 Thai and Japanese artists who lived, studied or exhibited in Japan and Thailand. The exhibition is designed to show different periods from the time of Japanese cultural involvement in Thailand before World War II to the economic boom and rising growth of Thailand’s GDP up to the wide acceptance in Thailand of Japanese pop culture.
Participating artists include: Jitr (Prakit) Buabusya, Sawasdi Tantisuk, Chalood Nimsamer, Damrong Wong-Uparaj, Montien Boonma, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Navin Rawanchaikul, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Porntaweesak Rimsakul and Chatchai Puipia, while Japanese artists include Niro Yokota, Ichi Ikeda, Yasumasa Morimura and Nobuyoshi Araki.
The exhibition “Show Me Thai” includes painting, sculpture, mixed-media work, video art, installation art, film, cartoon animation and music.
