WALKING TO WORK
Category: Contemporary Art, Performance.
A beautifully produced Art book chronicling the recent work of west Wales
based performance artist Simon Whitehead.
Containing visual material from the artist's sketchbook and video journals
with documentation and writing from his projects in Wales and
internationally.
The book includes commissioned pieces from writers Heike Roms, Wallace Heim
and David Williams, Welsh translation by Diarmuid Johnson, Photography from
Cardiff based Phil Martin and a sound piece on CD, Dulais, recorded on the
river close to Whitehead's home and made in collaboration with Australia
based sound artist Barnaby Oliver.
Drawn from a body of work made between 1993 and 2006 the book reveals
Whitehead's place sensitive approach to performance making and the
collaborative nature of the enquiries he makes with other artists, writers,
the public and animals.
`...a field of enquiry which continues to preoccupy Whitehead's practice:
how can we express (and share) the infinite complexity of a place, a place
that we can never fully know, and our physical and sensual relationship
with it?'
Heike Roms .
