This limited-edition publication, comprised of a vinyl and a booklet, provides the reader with the opportunity to follow Susan Philipsz creative process in the making of the work A Single Voice. The work was produced for an installation at Bonniers Konsthall in 2016. Susan Philipsz (b. 1965, Glasgow) isolated the violin part in Swedish avant-garde composer Karl-Birger Blomdahl’s Aniara and recorded it tone by tone. In the installation every tone comes from its own speaker and is dispersed in the exhibition spaces, creating an enveloping architecture of sound.
Since her discovery of science fiction TV series, Susan Philipsz has been fascinated with outer space. In this publication she lets her fascination with the unknown merge with her constant exploration of the sculptural and spiritual dimensions of music that mark her entire oeuvre.
