The Two Halves of Martha Wilson’s Brain illustrates that Martha Wilson, the artist, and Martha Wilson, the founder and director of Franklin Furnace, not only represent two parts of one world view—her chosen fields of activity must also be seen as mutually constituting, inseparable facets of an artistic practice.
Over more than four decades Martha Wilson has relentlessly pushed the borders of artistic expression in her various interwoven roles and functions, while shaping the (hi)stories of performance art, feminism, and alternative art spaces.
