There were islands is a graduate exhibition by students of the BxNU Master of Fine Art, developed by Northumbria University and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. The two-year postgraduate course offers ambitious artists the opportunity to participate in a unique degree programme, centred in the vibrant dynamic studio culture of the BxNU Institute of Contemporary Art at BALTIC 39.

The students also produced an archival box of limited edition works to act as an unconventional catalogue to accompany the exhibition. Edition 1/60 resides in BALTIC's Archive within the artists' book collection and can be viewed by appointment.
