This publication documents a series of unique Town Crying performances presented across North East England in 2007 by performance art group Lone Twin. For Town Crying, Lone Twin worked with an award winning local town crier to create a series of proclamations to tell stories of places, events and communities back to the people of the region. The scripts performed at each location were developed from conversations and chance encounters between the artists and people who live, shop, work or visit there. Combining stories, ideas and opinions, these personal, anecdotal and often humorous commentaries encourage us to all think about the aspirations we have for our lives and the places in which we live. Included are an interview with the artists Gary Winters and Gregg Whelan, extensive photographic documentation of the crier’s performances and his audiences, together with reproductions of the original cries produced for each location. Published to coincide with dott07 festival (Designs of the Time 2007) taking place from 16 – 24 October 2007 in North East England |
