Description

Unseen Magazine is an international publication that discovers new developments in contemporary photography. Published once a year in conjunction with Amsterdam’s Unseen Photo Fair & Festival, the magazine expands upon the critical dialogue surrounding the fair. With a particular focus on young and emerging artists, Unseen offers a broad and experimental approach to exploring the medium of photography.

Redesigned and reimagined, this year’s issue of Unseen Magazine is bolder and more exciting than ever. Charting key developments at the forefront of contemporary photography, Unseen Magazine invites a selection of instrumental voices to provide their take on the position of the medium today.

Issue 5 showcases the role that artists play in striving to make sense of the shifting world around us. Contributions explore how photographic artists have established themselves as indispensable gatekeepers of pictorial archives, as well as how new imaging technologies are examined and employed with surprising subtlety when in the hands of contemporary practitioners. Elsewhere, Unseen follows an artist on residency, takes a look behind the scenes at gallerists’ private collections and presents a selection of recent projects dissecting the conventions of masculinity.
