Description

"The exhibition Where Are We Now? is accompanied by a comprehensive two-part catalogue, including an essay by Prof. Dr. Isabelle Graw. In the essay, Graw highlights the structural changes in the art economy and how they implicate the body in a selection of works from De Geer’s Collection by artists who make extensive use of their bodies in manifold ways. Graw explores the extent to which the old and the new spirit of capitalism manifest themselves in the works from the Collection, showing how they resonate within them. She argues that there is a common thread running through these works – they all engage with the body, whether it is latently present, explicitly referred to or only hinted at in an anthropomorphic fashion. Arguably, these works have been selected with a keen interest in how the body is addressed and understood by the old or the new economy respectively.
