Willie Doherty: False Memory

Willie Doherty: False Memory
Library Shelf Location 18.DOHE
Publication Date 2002
Description Willie Doherty (born 1959), a native of Derry, Northern Ireland, is an artist of international standing. He uses photography, video, and sound installations to explore the fallibility of human memory and our collective need to engage with the stories and images that represent our experiences. Many of Willie Doherty's photographs suggest a strong potential for narrative development. The viewer, however, is compelled to move beyond the surface of the picture to examine its social, political, psychological, and economic dimensions. Much of his work is open-ended or contingent and questions the truth-telling aspects of visual representation. This midcareer retrospective is the most comprehensive book yet published on this artist.
