Abstract Since the mid-1980s. Derry-based artist Wille Doherty had focused his attention on the conflict in Northern Ireland, and specifically on the border zone in and around Derry. Doherty's works have the Irish landscape as their constant and unifying subject. This landscape, as Doherty has written, is not an abstract, anonymous landscape. On the contrary, it is one that is deeply inscribed with historical, political and social meaning.
